My family had the good fortune to live in the beautiful mountains and countryside of Colorado for 16 years, breathing clean air, viewing wide-open spaces, and having access to the freshest fruits and vegetables you often cannot find in city groceries. And the most extraordinary gardens were the ones that Nature herself laid out as the wildflowers carpeted the meadows and mountainsides every spring.
But both my wife and I grew up in big cities, and after our small town stint we find ourselves back in a metropolitan setting. And the great challenge is to bring that experience of nature’s garden into the avenues, houses and buildings of the urban environment.
